[It seems like it's been a long time since Naegi returned to his own world from Empatheias. No one would blame him if he thought that entire experience was a fever dream.

That is, until a very familiar shrimp strolls into his workplace.]

Excuse me, I'm looking for Makoto?

[There's a mountain of paperwork in front of him, still a little daunting for sure, but it's nothing that he hasn't been prepared for at home after working for the Future Foundation. He's sighing, rubbing at an ache in his neck when he hears the front door open.

Naegi's mouth is opening to call out how he can help whoever is there, but when he hears that voice - he freezes.

That voice is... It has to be...!

He stands abruptly, hands on the desk. Papers slide off of piles and flutter to the floor, but Naegi can't pay them any mind right now.]

...Dad?

[It's called out trembling, uncertain - hopeful. A wind that speaks of his surprise blows through the office, but there's warmth in it.]

There you are. Missed you, dear.

[Cherryblod smiles, like it hasn't been ages, and steps forward to gently tug Naegi into a hug.]

[The moment arms go around him, Naegi shakes a little - then even more. His eyes are already pooling with tears as he thinks of how long it's been, of the years that stretch out in his mind of the person that he didn't even know he needed to miss. The years that he got to live through what Komaru had told him here in Empatheias, of the fate of their parents being entirely unknown. And as the first sob chokes out of him, he thinks most of all of the blood father that may not be around to hug him this way anymore.] Cher- Dad, Dad I'm... I'm so sorry...! [He presses his forehead against Cherryblod, trying to keep from getting his clothes wet, but that in particular is a pointless endeavor because there's already a rain cloud forming over their heads even in spite of the taste of curry that floods his mouth. There's really no hope of controlling his reactions right now.] Even if it wasn't something I could control, I- I'm sorry I went away for so long...! [Even if it was shorter for Cherryblod... it was still too long.]

[It's lucky that Cherryblod is comfortable in the water. Rain on him all you like, all he'll do is hold you tighter.]

[He can't travel worlds under his own power, but he never stopped thinking of how he could come to see his son.]

[He stays pressed there, a moment longer or many as he feels himself piece back together, the embrace healing something he hadn't remembered was broken until only a short while ago. When he feels like himself enough, he lifts his head. Eyes teary, he has to push some hair out of his eyes that's soaked with rain. It's still warm as it falls on him, but he can feel a little bit of a chill come in from being wet and he shivers slightly. Part of him still insists there's responsibility for him to bear, there - but he's not 18 year old Naegi anymore, and he's just a little bit better about blaming himself for things out of his control. Instead, he nods, accepts it.] ...Thank you, for coming. Are- Have you been alright? [Gently, almost thoughtlessly, Naegi holds onto Cherryblod's sleeves.] Has everything okay here?

Quiet, peaceful. But not the same without you, dear.

[He isn't unhappy in the sea, particularly when it's safe - but he knew he was missing something.]

If I could've remembered... I would've wanted to come back to you, every single day. I would've done anything I could've to come back... [Back to this place, full of so many precious people and memories.] But I'm glad for it was peaceful, at least. Knowing that you were safe... is really comforting. [He thinks back to his own world that he came from, filled with anything but peace, and Naegi feels nothing but grateful. If he has his way, Cherryblod will never have to witness any of that.]

And you, my dear? Were you safe?

[That's the important part here, not whatever happened to Cherryblod. Naegi deserves hardship far less, after all.]

[Naegi's expression flickers, and he knows he won't be able to hide it. Could never be able to hide it from Cherryblod, so he doesn't even try.] ...No. Not all the time. [He says it very quietly.] The state of the world was... in very bad shape when I got home. But I had Kirigiri-san and the rest of my friends, and we did what we could to watch out for ourselves and each other.

[He's not surprised - can't be, with what he knows of Naegi's world from before - but it does make him squeeze Naegi a little tighter.]
