[Admittedly, he was already very far off schedule, and should have probably fought a little harder to get back on track. Childe's refusal to join La Signora on the return trip to Snezhnaya had come with the unfortunate price tag of needing to wait until the next vessel willing to ferry him back home opened up the capacity of passengers. Which... It had! Technically. Only, he hadn't been in the position to board when it had been ready to set sail, and Teucer's stowaway antics had necessitated his younger brother take the ticket back instead. He had now managed to officially tie up all the loose ends involving himself and the Northland Bank, his schedule fully and mercifully empty from now up until the next Snezhnayan trade vessel lowered anchor in Liyue's stone harbor.
As the saying went, "Third time's the charm."
A lack of responsibilities in the lands of the Geo Archon had soon him in the deepest throes of wanderlust and mind numbing boredom, and Childe had relocated himself from the fine inns and expensive dining within the city proper to more of a... Rustic living style. He'd taken to living in one of the Fatui outposts near Lingju Pass, spending his days training the new recruits in the art of combat and endurance. His nights passed peacefully, resting within one of the standard issue canvas tents and dreaming of home.
It... Was still quite boring, honestly. But the courier bearing news of his travel arrangements would arrive any day now, and thus the monotony would only need to be endured for just a while longer. Besides, it was better to remain here and away from the city, where the rumors of his involvement in the summoning of Osial could not be fueled by the fire of his own presence. It was better to let things die down naturally.
Today was a day like any other, bright and sunny, with only the occasional cloud in the sky to lazily float past the clear and unbroken cyan blues above. The recruits he had been personally overseeing had taken the good weather as an excuse to get some patrol work done, and in their absence, he had decidedly set out armed with a fishing rod and an empty bucket. Following the river southeast towards Mount Tianheng, he set up shop on the banks of the water and cast out his first line.
Lumine doesn't always wander out of her way, but she's doing it more since that episode with Childe and Teucer - a desperate need to clear it of the thoughts that seem to cloud it now at a rapid rate. What she doesn't expect is to find the person that's occupying her head way too much, benignly fishing without a care in the world.
At first she thinks of just turning around and walking the other way, but then- she's speaking before she can even reel her thoughts back.]
An interesting place to find the Eleventh Harbinger, don't you think?
[In all honesty, he held both himself and his senses to such high regard that Childe had been all but certain that it was nearly impossible for someone to get the jump on him these days. The word nearly here was paramount, as somehow Lumine has in fact managed to sneak up on him all the same.
Although in hindsight, such a notion wasn't really all that surprising; she had become something of an exception to a lot of his personal rules and routines, after all. To his credit, the way her voice rings out from behind him doesn't make him jump or jolt, and only the subtle way his shoulders momentarily stiffen on reflex would be enough to give away his brief lapse in guard.]
Oh, I'm sure I could think up a few areas that would be a lot more unexpected. Just wait until I surprise you in a domain some day. [His tone is bright and chipper as always, and there's a grin tucked into his words as he keeps his eyes on a particularly large koi that's currently in the process of sizing up his lure. A brief war is waged on whether he should wait to fully address her until after he manages to bag a catch, one that's quickly conceded as he starts the process of reeling his line back in.
She's certainly more interesting than a koi, after all. Especially if he can manage to goad her into drawing a weapon on him.]
Although, with the way we keep running into each other like this, I'm sort of starting to think that you might be actively trying to track me down. [He's tilting his head just enough to glance back at her over his shoulder, the curve of the smirk on his lips pairing with the teasing note his voice takes on.] Miss me that dearly, comrade?
Hands you a Whale for a Girl™
