[ As the self proclaimed 'devil' of this world, Homura was able to do as she pleased. More specifically, she had the ability to rewrite things in her favor. That's why she made Madoka the transfer student. It was her wish, after all; to be able to protect her and make her happy. Even if everything was warped, that alone would not change.

It was all out of love.

Maybe others wouldn't understand. She doubted Madoka would understand, either, being the girl who cared about so much that she sacrificed herself for everyone's sake. But that, too, was mistake. That much Homura knew. Becoming the Law of the Cycle meant pulling her away from her family. Her friends.

And she was the only one who could recall her, back then. And this time, this was the real Madoka. Not some fake.

So she's glad she can work on a project together, although not that the project is done, there's not much else to do except bring out some celebratory cake. ]

I suppose this is to a job well done.

[Ever since that moment during her first day back in Japan, she's felt a sense of unease. There isn't anything she can do to fix it, or so she thinks, but the feeling has just continued to persist - that there's something she is supposed to do, supposed to be, but for some reason she just... can't...

For some reason, that feeling nags at her a lot when she'’s around Homura. And she doesn't like that, because even though they haven't known each other very long, Homura... She's...

For some reason, Homura is really important to Madoka.

She wishes it wasn't like this... That things could just be the way they're supposed to, and that she could just relax around the other girl, but...]

A-ah, I'm just glad we were able to finish... You did really well, Homura-chan.

[She's smiling, but there's something off about it.

Unnerved. Uncertain.

Scared. But of what? Who?]

[ Regardless of whether there's something about that smile or not, Homura is just simply glad that she's smiling. It's all that matters now; to see her never cry, never upset. She can never become the Law of the Cycle again; if she does, she'll be pulled away from her family and friends again.

She won't allow it. ]

But you're welcome. How is the cake? It's alright, isn't it?

I just did the best that I could... [She laughs a little sheepishly.] But thank you. I'm glad I could help.

[Something isn't right.

She's happy. Even if that feeling won't let her settle fully, she's happy to be here with Homura.

Mmhmm! [Madoka nods happily, smile wide on her face as she breaks off another piece with her fork.] It's delicious!

[She takes a bite, and the moment it hits her tongue-

A sound leaves her throat and her shoulders jerk. It almost feels like an out of body experience - she's aware of what's happening, but she doesn't really feel it happening to her. It's the reason Madoka is completely surprised when she realizes that she's crying.]

It's... really good, Homura-chan...

[ Homura listens but she doesn't actually say anything. At least not at first as she just simply watches Madoka rather carefully with bright eyes but when she starts to cry, that's when her eyes widen to the point where she's frozen up for a second before she moves from where she's sitting across from her to right next to her.

It's only proper this way, and-- ]

Are you okay, Madoka? [ Something tense fills the air as she asks that question, and she's definitely worried. ]

Ye- Yes, I-I'm fine! [She tries for a laugh, but it comes out as a broken, watery thing. Madoka also tries to smile, but it's just as unconvincing since the tears only come faster.] I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm...

[Yes, she does.

She knows why. Deep down, she knows.]

[She opens her mouth to speak, and what she'd intended to say is not what leaves her lips.]

Are you really happy like this, Homura-chan?

[ Madoka says that she's fine but honestly? Homura isn't entirely convinced of her friend's words - if you could really, earnestly call her that, even though she'd like that very much. Taking out a handkerchief from her pocket, she hands it over with a small smile. ]

Here, use this. [ The smile that she wears seems to be just a little sad, however. ] I'm happy, though. I promise.
